“…able to participate in life one last time…”

This is my first post without an image on this blog since I started.
This article from the Guardian.co.uk site, a series of photos of terminally people with shots when they were alive, then a portrait after they passed away.
Rita Schoffler (photo 10/22):
“now I’d love to be able to participate in life one last time…”
Deep somber and very heartfelt with a strong sense of life being too short.
Before you were going to pass away, would you like to see it coming or just have it happen?

I saw that collection of images from Dooce. I was not sure how I felt about them, but I did notice that many of them did not seem to have a look of fear on their faces. There was a quiet confidence in many of them as well as courage as they looked death in the face. I think I would like to know… but only a short time, like a few weeks. Enough time to be at peace with it, and accept it. I wonder how many people the photographer asked to photograph that turned the opportunity down?
